Brief introduction of polyurethane adhesive

October 18, 2024
Polyurethane Adhesive refers to an adhesive containing a urethane group (-NHCOO-) or an isocyanate group (-NCO) in the molecular chain. Polyurethane adhesives are an important part of polyurethane resins that are currently developing rapidly. They have excellent properties and have been widely used in many fields. They are one of the eight major synthetic adhesives.

The diversity of polyurethane adhesives provides a solution to many bonding problems, and is particularly applicable to places where other types of adhesives cannot be bonded or difficult to bond.

Polyurethane adhesives are divided into two major categories: polyisocyanates and polyurethanes. They contain highly polar, highly chemically active isocyanates and urethane groups, and materials that contain active hydrogen, such as foam, wood, leather. Porous materials such as fabrics, paper, ceramics, and materials with smooth surfaces such as metal, glass, rubber, and plastic all have excellent chemical adhesion. Hydrogen bonding between the polyurethane and the adhered material will increase the cohesion of the molecule, making the bond stronger.

In addition, polyurethane adhesives also have toughness adjustable, bonding process is simple, excellent low temperature performance and excellent stability and so on. It is precisely because of this excellent adhesive properties of polyurethane adhesives and the adaptability to the bonding of various substrates, its application fields are continuously expanding, and it has become the fastest-growing adhesive at home and abroad in recent years.
